ArmInfo. The issue of the Constitutional Court has essentially been resolved. MP Viktor Yengibaryan stated this at a press conference. The MP noted that the parliament adopted a bill according to which three judges of the Constitutional Court must leave their posts.
<In this matter, we did not fight with individuals. This issue is exclusively in the legal plane. As you know, the President of Armenia, the government and the General Judicial Council had to nominate their candidates for the position of judges of the Constitutional Court. The candidates have already been presented, and we will elect them this autumn," he stressed.
As for the possibility of creating the Supreme Court, Yengibaryan stated that the issue should be decided by the public. <This initiative will be clarified to the public. This practice is accepted all over the world, I think it will benefit the judicial system of Armenia," the MP noted.
Yengibaryan also stressed that the task of the authorities is to do everything possible to increase people's confidence in the judicial system. "Today our citizens are most dissatisfied with the judicial system. As you know, the people of Armenia have elected legislative and executive powers, and are satisfied with their choice. And only the judiciary arouses the mistrust of our compatriots," he said.
To note, earlier Speaker of the Armenian parliament Ararat Mirzoyan signed the law on amendments to the law "On the Constitutional Court", which was adopted on June 30. In accordance with them, the powers of all judges of the Constitutional Court are limited to 12 years. After the adoption of the amendments, three judges who had worked for over 12 years were dismissed from their posts: Alvina Gyulumyan, Hrant Nazaryan and Felix Tokhyan. Heat of the court, Hrayr Tovmasyan, has become an ordinary judge. New judges will now be elected instead. One candidate is proposed by the Government, the second - by the President, and the third - by the General Assembly of Judges. The government nominated Doctor of Laws, Professor Vahram Avetisyan, but he refused to participate in the elections. Then the government nominated Edgar Shatiryan as a candidate. At the general meeting of judges, Chairman of the RA Court of Cassation Yervand Khundkaryan was elected as a candidate for the Constitutional Court judge. Arthur Vagharshyan, nominated by the President, is Doctor of Law, Professor.
