ArmInfo.As of August 17, 2 cases of COVID-19 were registered among prisoners in penitentiary institutions of Armenia. This was reported by a group of public observers exercising public control in penitentiary institutions and the bodies of the RA Ministry of Justice.
According to the source, the first virus carrier was a prisoner from the Kosh penitentiary: on June 6, he was isolated in a unit of the Prison for convicts penitentiary allocated for this purpose. After receiving appropriate medical care, he was discharged on June 26 in a satisfactory condition. The second virus carrier was a prisoner from the "Armavir" penitentiary; his diagnosis was confirmed on 4 August; he was also placed in the "Hospital for the convicts". Currently, despite the negative results of the coronavirus test, his state of health is assessed as moderate, and he continues to be under medical supervision.
Thus, according to the official information of the RA Ministry of Justice, as of August 17, 157 people were tested in penitentiary institutions, of which 26 were prisoners and 130 were convicted; two prisoners were tested positive for COVID-19. Among the employees of the penitentiary system, 347 tests were carried out, 71 employees were diagnosed with COVID-19.
