ArmInfo. The "South Caucasian Railway" company in order to prevent road accidents on the railway on September 9 held a "Save the Life" safety campaign. According to the press service of the SCR, within the framework of the campaign, drivers of vehicles at crossings across railway tracks were provided with information materials on the rules for safe crossing of tracks.
The campaign was held at crossings with the most intensive traffic throughout the country. The event was organized jointly with the Traffic Police, which also has broad powers in the organization and technical equipment for the safe crossing of railway tracks by vehicles.
In general, there are 103 level crossings across the country, of which 30 are regulated and 73 are unregulated (including 4 crossings are automatically regulated). In addition, there are about 25 unauthorized crossings through the tracks that threaten the safety of train traffic.
This year alone, thanks to the prompt actions of the railway workers, it was possible to prevent more than 250 cases of external dangerous impacts on the safety of train traffic. However, it is not always possible to prevent accidents. So, in the first 8 months of this year, the number of road accidents and collisions on the railway amounted to 10 cases, including 2 cases of falling vehicles on the way from bridges. In 2019, the maximum number of such events was recorded - 28 cases.
"Over the 10 years of concession activities, the operational work of the South Caucasus Railway has become much more intensive - the number of "through trains", following without stopping, has increased, the speed of trains has increased 2.4 times, weight - by 34%, traffic intensity - by 7%, - Sergey Harutyunyan, the chief auditor on the safety of train traffic of the South Caucasus Railways noted. " Local authorities can provide real assistance in solving the problem of violations of transport safety rules on the railway. Only joint, everyday work and the strictest implementation of laws will guarantee the safety of both the railway and citizens. And I urge our citizens should always remember: it takes time to stop a train, but to stop life - just one moment. "
