ArmInfo. Paternity leave may be enshrined in Labor Code of Armenia. MP from "My Step" Tsovinar Vardanyan presented the corresponding draft of amendments and additions to the Labor Code on September 9 at the sitting of the RA NA Standing Committee on Healthcare and Social Issues.
According to the bill, the child's father, if desired, can be provided with paid leave. The parent will be able to apply to the employer for obtaining leave within 30 days after the birth of the child, while the duration of the leave is provided for 5 working days. Vardanyan informed that the employer will pay paternity leave based on the average daily wage of the employee.
Other amendments concern the protection of the social rights of women workers who have taken maternity leave. In particular, it is stipulated that working conditions cannot be revised downward, with the exception of the title of the position or categories. According to the MP, this provision will be in force until the child is one year old. If the draft law is approved by the National Assembly, then amendments and additions to the Labor Code will come into force on January 1, 2021.
