ArmInfo. On the night of September 7, employees of the new security organization Lydian Armenia attacked the defenders of Amulsar and beat them. Ani Samsonyan, a member of the Enlightened Armenia parliamentary faction, wrote about this on her Facebook page.
"According to eyewitness accounts, violence was also used against the policeman. The Armenian police must objectively investigate all circumstances, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice, "the MP said. Samsonyan also informed that the day before she visited Amulsar with her colleague Gevork Gorgisyan and had a conversation with his defenders. At the same time, according to her, there were 5-6 Lydian Armenia guards on the two policemen on duty. "Private security guards filmed us throughout our stay, and they had neither the right nor the permission to do this," she said.
Lydian Armenia, meanwhile, voiced the opposite point of view regarding the incident, stating that the attack was carried out on its security organization by a group of people who broke into the territory of Amulsar.
It should be reminded that earlier Lydian Armenia's previous security organization, the Special Security Service LLC, was at the center of the scandal, which provoked collisions on Amulsar after dismantling the carriages of the activists' houses. It is noteworthy that during the clashes a number of guards were detained on suspicion of hooliganism. On September 1, Lydian Armenia announced that it had changed the security organization due to the expiration of the contract with the "Special Security Service", but in reality, by the decision of August 28, on the basis of the conclusion of the Licensing Commission operating in the RA Police, its license was suspended due to with identified violations.
The total cost of the Amulsar project is $ 370 million. The life of the deposit is 10 years and 4 months, with an average annual production of 200 thousand ounces of gold planned. We add that Lydian Armenia is a subsidiary of the British offshore Lydian International. Environmentalists and ordinary citizens are concerned that the operation of the mine may lead to the pollution of the mineral underground waters of Jermuk and Lake Sevan. In addition to the water basin, the public is also concerned about the possible presence of uranium manifestations at the deposit.
Environmentalists and activists demand that the positive conclusion on the EIA project be invalidated, since it was adopted with legislative violations, and the document itself contains problems and shortcomings. Earlier, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced the completion of its participation in the project for the development of the Amulsar deposit
