ArmInfo. The second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, resigned from politics in the firm conviction that he was leaving forever with the intention of doing something more interesting, but had to return. He expressed this idea in an interview with the RBK TV channel.
He noted that a sharp turn occurred in his life, as a result of which he had to start everything from scratch. "Today we have created a very serious instrument of political struggle. A fairly good functional team has been created, moreover, we are very well represented in the media field, quite well represented on the Internet, we have fairly good positions in social networks. That is, this is something without which the political struggle in modern conditions is impossible. This process took us one and a half to two years, "Kocharyan emphasized.
As for the question that the majority of the media in Armenia is controlled by the opposition, the second president noted that this opinion is exaggerated.
According to the second president of Armenia, the intellectual potential of the country is mainly concentrated outside the parliament and the opposition potential mainly consists of the academic circles, as well as the expert community. "In this regard, the situation is quite interesting. The opposition sufficiently dominates the media, not because it pays for something there, but because it is simply more interesting now, it is intellectual, and creates a powerful component that is interesting. I believe that people have already come out of the euphoria that was in 2018. They began to think rationally, " Kocharyan concluded.
Kocharyan also noted that, of course, any head of state is concerned over the question of a successor. He stressed that he thought that he was leaving politics partly because Serzh Sargsyan was elected to the presidency.
Kocharyan also noted that he was somewhat disappointed with the policy of Serzh Sargsyan, especially against the constitutional changes implemented in Armenia. Kocharyan noted that he does not consider the parliamentary form of government suitable for our country.
As for whether Kocharyan warned Serzh Sargsyan in 2015 about what this could lead to, the second president said that then they had "little contact". "In this regard, I publicly expressed my point of view, but there were no personal conversations."
Kocharyan also noted that the processes taking place in Armenia and Belarus are in many ways similar. However, in his words, the attitude of Western countries towards Armenia was different than towards Belarus. "In fact, the Armenian government was much more tolerant of dissent. RPA and the President of Armenia actively cooperated with Western countries. Moreover, in our country there were no political prisoners, beatings of journalists, or mysterious disappearances. That is, in this context, the situation was different. However, when this whole process began, the embassies changed their position. Many of the revolutions that took place in the former Soviet Union are similar to the technologies used, "the second president of Armenia stressed.
He stated that the "rose revolution" in Georgia in 2003, the "velvet revolution" in Armenia in 2018, the attempted revolution in Belarus "stencil" are similar in the technologies used, but the basic parameters in each country are still quite different.
When asked whether Kocharyan will participate in the next election, if he has a similar opportunity, the latter stated:
