ArmInfo. Armenian police stopped an attempt of illegal transit of Iranian citizens to Europe.
According to the press service of the RA Police, as a result of the operational-search measures, information was received that two citizens of Iran, under the pretext of transiting people to European countries, illegally attracted 50 Iranian citizens who were taken to Armenia. Here they were met by other members of the criminal group, who are citizens of Armenia, who, in order to instill confidence, introduced themselves as employees of the law enforcement and diplomatic sectors. According to preliminary data for their services, they demanded and received, about 300 thousand dollars to send people who moved to Armenia to the countries of destination. Some of the Iranian citizens were then transited to Turkey and Georgia, from where they were promised to be sent to European countries through diplomatic missions in these countries, having previously taken their passports.
Members of the criminal group were identified and arrested. As a result of operational-search measures and investigative actions, part of the confiscated passports was found. A criminal case has been initiated into the incident. A preliminary investigation is underway.
