The Armenian Foreign Ministry harshly criticized Azerbaijan for the  violation of the rights of the Armenian officer Gurgen Alaverdyan,  who was in Azerbaijani captivity

ArmInfo. The Armenian Foreign Ministry made a statement in connection with the violation of the rights of the Armenian officer Gurgen Alaverdyan, who came under the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan.

Thus, the statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reads, in  particular: "We strongly condemn the humiliating treatment of officer  Gurgen Alaverdyan, who came under the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan on  August 22. This is a flagrant and open violation of international  humanitarian law. Publicly humiliating the dignity of Gurgen  Alaverdyan, Azerbaijan denies the right of prisoners of war to  respect for their personality and honor under any circumstances,"  proclaimed by civilized humanity and enshrined in the Third Geneva  Convention This practice is inherent in the notorious terrorist  organizations and, as we see, in Azerbaijan.

The dictatorial regime of Azerbaijan, feeding its people with  primitive propaganda and Armenophobia, covers up the serious failures  of its Armed Forces in the July battles, forcing the prisoners of war  to read fabricated texts.

The fact that Azerbaijan is one of the few countries that refused to  ratify all the Additional Protocols to the Geneva Conventions  testifies to Azerbaijan's disdainful attitude to international  humanitarian law.  Azerbaijan's continuing violations of the  international humanitarian rights seriously undermine the  establishment of an atmosphere conducive to peace. "

As a reminder, according to the RA Ministry of Defense, on August 22  at 19:30, officer Gurgen Alaverdyan lost his way on the ground due to  unfavorable weather conditions while checking combat positions. The  RA Defense Ministry also denied the information circulated in the  Azerbaijani media about the attempted sabotage penetration by the RA  Armed Forces, as a result of which Alaverdyan was allegedly captured.  The Armenian Defense Ministry also reported that an official check is  underway to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.

The ICRC told ArmInfo that a dialogue has been established with the  relevant parties to gain access to an Armenian citizen who has ended  up in Azerbaijan.

It is also worth noting that yesterday the Azerbaijani media  disseminated a video in which an allegedly Armenian military man  admits that he was sent to Azerbaijan to collect intelligence  information, and that he allegedly wants to stay in Azerbaijan.  Moreover, he reads the text from a piece of paper in poorly written  Armenian.
