died in the April war. Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan wrote about this on his Facebook page. "There was a lot of talk about the selfless and patriotic behavior of Armenak Urfanyan. For a worthy assessment of his heroic image, I think this will be the best decision on the Day of Artsakh Republic. I will sign the decision with pleasure and pride," Harutyunyan noted.
Armenak Urfanyan, who died a hero's death, was born in 1990, served in the Armed Forces since 2007. He was posthumously awarded the NKR Medal "For Military Merit" with the RA Order "Battle Cross" 1st degree.
On the night of April 1 to April 2, the enemy launched an offensive against the strongholds of the 4th rifle company. Armenak, together with his personnel, entered into a long battle with the enemy. The 4th company of Captain Armenak Urfanyan repeatedly repulsed enemy attacks in an unequal battle.
At 3:00 am, the position located in the direction of Martakert, where Armenak Urfanyan and his soldiers were on duty, came under heavy fire, then enemy tanks and hundreds of Azerbaijani soldiers went on the offensive. Armenak ordered his six fighters to take up a perimeter defense, accept the battle and not retreat, as he knew that if this position surrendered to the enemy, then the rest of the positions would be surrounded. In an unequal battle, 7 fighters led by Armenak Urfanyan repulsed the first attack of the enemy and knocked out one tank.
In the second attack on the position of the 4th rifle company, the enemy used large forces. The enemy tried to pave the way with the help of the evacuation vehicle, but Armenak destroyed it too. Large enemy forces retreated. The commander also destroyed the enemy's engineering equipment with a grenade launcher. The enemy continued shelling the 4th rifle company.
Armenak was killed by a mine explosion. Yazidi soldier Kyaram Sloyan perished with him. During the battle, Armenak was constantly in touch with the battalion command, his last phrase was: "I am fighting, using all means. I will definitely save the position, I will not surrender>.
