ArmInfo. Systemic problems have accumulated in the sphere of ensuring the right to education of children with disabilities. Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan stated this yesterday at the first meeting of the Public Council for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities under the Human Rights Defender.
According to him, these problems are associated with access to educational materials, programs, textbooks, physical environment, as well as the number qualified specialists. "Children and parents are often faced with problems. They are the result of gaps in legislation and lack of awareness. One of the strengths of our work is to ensure equal and dignified learning conditions for children, free from any form of isolation or discrimination. In this area, there are stereotypes that negatively affect the education of children, "said Arman Tatoyan, pointing out the professionalism of the council members and their rich experience. During the discussion, inter alia, the perverse phenomenon of bullying in educational institutions was discussed, especially in relation to children with disabilities. Council members stressed the importance of the Human Rights Defender's Council for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, declaring their readiness to actively cooperate in helping to solve problems in this area. They also discussed issues of effective organization of inclusive education, ensuring the right to education in special schools, as well as resuming the work of schools and classes in connection with the COVID-19 epidemic.
Recall that in accordance with the RA Constitutional Law "On the Human Rights Defender" the Ombudsman is responsible for monitoring the application of the provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, as well as for preventing violations of the rights of people with disabilities by the state, local government bodies or officials.
