ArmInfo. Lydian Armenia calls the blocking of approaches to the Amulsar field by activists illegal.
In its statement, the company notes that for two years now activists have continued to illegally park their cars at the entrance to Amulsar, and this territory, according to the company, is under the legal control of Lydian Armenia. It is reported that the company was forced to remove the aforementioned vehicles from the territory of the company on its own in order to provide the necessary basic living conditions on the territory, as well as the uninterrupted work of the guards. <Lydian Armenia will do everything within the law to ensure the safety of its employees. We call on the law enforcement agencies to carry out their direct functions and ensure the restoration of the law in the territory, otherwise they will be held responsible for possible clashes in the community, "the statement said.
It should be reminded that on August 20, in front of the building of the RA Government, a protest action was held by green activists and residents of Jermuk demanding to withdraw the draft EIA (environmental impact assessment) for the Amulsar field. After numerous collisions, the carriages of the company were dismantled on behalf of the community leadership, since they were located in the territory outside the jurisdiction of Lydian Armenia.
The total cost of the Amulsar project is $ 370 million. The life of the deposit is 10 years and 4 months, with an average annual production of 200 thousand ounces of gold planned. Environmentalists and ordinary citizens are concerned that the operation of the mine may lead to the pollution of the mineral underground waters of Jermuk and Lake Sevan. In addition to the water basin, the public is also concerned about the possible presence of uranium manifestations at the deposit. Environmentalists and activists demand to invalidate the positive opinion on the EIA report, since it was adopted with legislative violations, and the document itself contains problems and shortcomings. Earlier, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced the completion of its participation in the project for the development of the Amulsar
