ArmInfo.Yesterday, late in the evening, representatives of the Ombudsman's office met with the detained protesters near the Amulsar field.
It should be reminded that the situation escalated after the new security organization of Lydian Armenia - "Special Security Service" - dismantled the cabins of the green activists. As a sign of protest, a motor vehicle set off from Jermuk towards the field, the participants of which later also joined the activists.
The special security service has been protecting the property of Lydian Armenia since June 30 this year. Its activities have repeatedly caused tension in the field area.
On behalf of the human rights defender, a rapid response team was sent to Vayots Dzor region, which visited the regional police station. It turned out on the spot that 10 protesters were detained, as well as four employees of the Lydian Armenia security company suspected of hooliganism. "The Human Rights Defender, within the framework of his powers, continues to focus on the developments around the operation of the Amulsar field," the Ombudsman's office said in a statement.
The total cost of the Amulsar project is $ 370 million. The life of the deposit is 10 years and 4 months, while it is planned to extract an average of 200 thousand ounces of gold annually. To recall, Lydian Armenia is a subsidiary of the British offshore Lydian International. Environmentalists and ordinary citizens are concerned that the operation of the mine may lead to the pollution of the mineral groundwater in Jermuk and Lake Sevan. In addition to the water basin, the public is also concerned about the possible presence of uranium manifestations at the deposit.
