ArmInfo. The first instance court chaired by Anna Danibekyan did not allow former CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov to temporarily leave Armenia. Khachaturov's lawyer Mihran Poghosyan submitted a petition to the court asking him to give his client the opportunity to visit Georgia.
According to the lawyer, Khachaturov will stay in Georgia for two days, therefore, the court sessions will not suffer from the latter's absence. Poghosyan also stressed that Khachaturov's parents and brother are buried in Georgia, and he would like to visit their graves.
"If suddenly there is an urgent need, my client will be able to return quickly, since Georgia is a few hours away from Armenia," the lawyer emphasized. However, the prosecutor in the case, Petros Petrosyan, stressed that Khachaturov's trip was inappropriate due to the coronavirus pandemic. <If Yuri Khachaturov leaves and then returns, he will have to be in a two-week quarantine. Consequently, the hearing will have to be postponed. We will have to wait almost a month, "the prosecutor stressed.
Judge Danibekyan agreed with this justification, deciding to reject the lawyer's petition.
To note, the former head of the General Staff and former CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov is involved in the case of the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharian, who is accused of overthrowing the constitutional order in the framework of the March 1, 2008 events. Former Minister of Defense of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan and former Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Gevorgyan are also involved in this case.
