ArmInfo. In connection with the activation of blue-green algae in Lake Sevan, the RA Ministry of Health, within the framework of monitoring the water quality in the coastal areas, carried out preliminary toxicological studies, as a result of which no changes were observed indicating acute toxicity. This is stated in a statement by the ministry.
<Despite this, algae, being a living organism, can move, changing the ratio of species depending on the temperature of the air and water, as well as the direction of the wind. Some of their species produce toxins that adversely affect the health of animals and humans, to which humans may be exposed through eating, bathing or swallowing "blooming" water.
To avoid health problems, the Ministry of Health urges to be careful, prohibit children from swimming in unauthorized places, and in case of eye irritation, rashes, in particular around the mouth and nose, skin irritation, allergic reactions and other symptoms, consult a doctor immediately. Monitoring of water quality in connection with the activation of blue-green algae in Lake Sevan continues>, the message says. Let us remind that the waters of Sevan have been blooming for the third year in a row because of blue- green algae, which ecologists associate with the previously recorded negative balances of the lake, as well as the lack of proper treatment plants. The flowering of Sevan on such a large scale was previously recorded only in the 60s.
