ArmInfo. Armenia continues to diversify its arms purchases, expanding the geography of supplying countries.
It is worth recalling that in the summer of 2018, Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan repeatedly announced his intention to purchase weapons necessary for the Armenian army not only from Russia, but also from those states that offer defense products at affordable prices for Armenia.
Thus, in March of this year, it became known that India will supply four Swati radars to Armenia within the framework of an arms deal worth $ 40 million.
And just yesterday, Serbian Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Lyajic (it is this ministry that gives permission for the export of weapons according to Serbian laws) confirmed the information about the acquisition of weapons by Armenia from the Serbian side.
"This year, 2020, one private company supplied weapons to Armenia, state-owned companies did not participate in this. I cannot say which company we are talking about, but it is known that it supplied mainly rifles and pistols, the amount was less than a million euros and the cargo was delivered in May and June ", - said Lyaich to the portal Nova.rs.
Ljajic stressed that besides his ministry, export permits were also given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Defense and the BIA special service. The minister stressed that there are no sanctions against Armenia and in such a case it is difficult to refuse a buyer.
Note that Azerbaijan reacted rather hysterically to the information about the purchase of weapons by Armenia from Serbia, and even summoned the Charge d'Affaires of the Serbian Embassy in Azerbaijan to the Foreign Ministry. Georgia also fell under the "hot hand", which Azerbaijan accused of complicity in the supply of weapons, by providing its territory for the transit of cargo. Meanwhile, official Tbilisi disowned these accusations, calling these reports disinformation.
It is also worth noting that in the current conditions, the hysteria of Azerbaijan is completely incomprehensible in connection with such deals between the two sovereign states, especially against the background of multibillion-dollar arms contracts concluded by Baku with various countries, including Armenia's partners in the CSTO. It turns out that the ambassadors of these countries must "register the residence" in the offices of the RA Foreign Ministry.
