ArmInfo. The press service of the Open Society Foundations- Armenia reports that to date, the Foundation has provided more than $ 600,000 for the fight against coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Armenia.
As part of the fight against COVID-19, the Foundation works to protect the rights of the elderly, disabled people, people with chronic or mental illnesses, people living with HIV, victims of domestic violence, refugees, national minorities and socially vulnerable families.
To help the country's health care system in the fight against coronavirus infection and to test a wider population, the Foundation has allocated about $ 50,000 for the purchase of PCR tests. Doctors and medical staff who participated in the fight against COVID-19 were provided with personal protective equipment and medical equipment.
Social assistance was provided to more than 5,000 isolated citizens in Yerevan and the regions, in particular, the elderly, disabled people, people with chronic diseases and socially vulnerable families, providing them with food and hygiene kits. Also, social assistance was provided to 120 Syrian-Armenian families living in Armenia.
The self-isolation caused by the coronavirus has created additional difficulties for women who have been victims of domestic violence. The Foundation donated over $ 30,000 to women's rights organizations to provide emergency assistance to more than 100 women in Yerevan and regions of Armenia who have been subjected to domestic violence.
The Foundation has also taken steps to make education more accessible amid the epidemic, especially for children who lack the technical means or skills to participate in government-sponsored distance education.
