ArmInfo. Issues related to the escalation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border were discussed during a meeting at the Russian Foreign Ministry by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and President of the Union of Armenians of Russia (UAR) Ara Abrahamyan.
According to the press service of the Union of Armenians of Russia, Abrahamyan informed the Minister about the statement adopted at the meeting of the Board of the Union of Armenians of Russia regarding the start of hostilities on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan, expressing concern about the provocative statements and threats by the leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkey directed to destabilize the situation in the region.
Abrahamyan also acquainted the Minister with the work that the Union of Armenians of Russia is carrying out these days, including the prevention of conflict manifestations on ethnic grounds in the territory of the Russian Federation.
Lavrov assured that Russia, as a country interested in peace and security in the region, has already taken a number of steps aimed at ending the hostilities on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and stabilizing the situation.
In its statement made earlier the UAR emphasized the inadmissibility of the provocative rhetoric that the Turkish Foreign Minister uses against Armenia, "apparently forgetting that it is not 1915, and today the Armenian Armed Forces, and if necessary the entire Armenian Diaspora, are able to give a rebuff to anyone who encroaches on the freedom and independence of Armenia. "
"We expect that the CSTO, of which Armenia is a member, will give an appropriate assessment of this situation, taking into account Turkey's interference in the conflict through a statement by this country's Foreign Ministry on" unconditional support "of Azerbaijan's actions.
We urge all our compatriots, including representatives of Armenian youth living in Russia, to remain calm and not to succumb to possible incitements, including those associated with the provocative speeches of some Russian pseudo-politicians and political scientists who, with their incompetent populist speeches, only aggravate the situation.
We are confident that through joint efforts of forces interested in establishing peace in the region, mechanisms will be found to solve this and other regional problems by political methods, "the UAR said in a statement.
