ArmInfo. Yerevan does not intend to appeal to the CSTO on the issue of deploying a peacekeeping contingent on the border with Azerbaijan. Ambassador of Armenia to Russia Vardan Toghanyan stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"Now, of course, there is no need for such an appeal, but time will tell how the situation will develop. At the same time, I want to emphasize that within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, which, by the way, includes our CSTO allies - Russia and Kazakhstan, the issue of introducing monitoring missions to monitor the situation around the entire border has been and remains. But, unfortunately, Azerbaijan is avoiding this idea in every way, does not discuss it and says through the president's words that it is necessary to rely solely on force, "Toghanyan said.
"There is already an international mandate to conduct (observations at the border - Ed. note). Therefore, I see no reason to talk about new things," he emphasized. According to the Ambassador, if the agreements reached earlier in the framework of the Minsk Group were observed by the Azerbaijani side, "there was no need to go somewhere or draw our allies."
"We don't want other sides' soldiers fight in the region. The whole problem is that when we turned to the CSTO, we tried to draw attention that there is a fact of aggression against Armenia. It's not about the formation of military groups and military actions, it is about drawing attention to this at the political level, "the diplomat said.
