ArmInfo. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian will not sign amendments to the constitutional law "On the Constitutional Court". Armen Sarkissian informed the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, about his decision, the press service of the President reports without indicating the reasons.
To recall, the parliament of Armenia at an extraordinary meeting on June 30 in the second and final reading adopted amendments to the laws "On the Constitutional Court" and "On the provision of activities, services and social guarantees of officials." 80 lawmakers voted "for", 1- ''against'', in the absence of abstentions. According to the additions made, the procedure for nominating candidates to the vacant seat of a judge of the Constitutional Court will be amended. So, first, the government will nominate candidates, then the President and then the Council of Judges.
Also, amendments to the law establish a mechanism for assigning pensions to members and judges of the Constitutional Court, whose powers were terminated due to recent constitutional changes (adopted by parliament on June 22). They are assigned the same pension that is legally assigned to judges whose powers were terminated due to the expiration of the term.
