ArmInfo. Goris occupies a unique place among the communities of Armenia and strives to become one of the most important cultural centers of Armenia. The Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan, who visited the city yesterday, stated this.
As the press service of the Ministry informs, Papikyan noted that with the support of the World Bank, work is currently underway on capital repairs of the historical center of old Goris. Thanks to this program, in addition to providing a unique environment, a number of other problems are also being resolved, in particular, a water supply and sewage system is being built, the channel of the Vararakn River is thoroughly cleaned.
The program "Old Goris" provides for the reconstruction and lining of streets and sidewalks in the central part of the city, the repair of roofs, balconies and facades of 38 buildings built in 1918-1920.
The project is implemented by the Tourism Committee with the support of the World Bank.
To note, the project is being implemented as part of the program "Development of the local economy and infrastructures", funded by the World Bank. The total cost of the program is $ 68.7 million. It provides for the improvement of urban and rural communities, historical and cultural areas, the establishment of tourist service centers, tourist route roads, accessibility, and technical assistance. The program is designed to play a special role in developing regional tourism potential.
