ArmInfo.Armenia is in a deep crisis, and the government, instead of improving the living conditions of its citizens, exposes them to terror. On June 25, leader of the Bright Armenia parliamentary faction Edmon Marukyan stated this from the rostrum of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
According to him, the media, the opposition, and civil society activists are subjected to terror. Instead of resolving the social and economic problems of their citizens, the authorities are trying to do everything to keep the opposition silent. As an example, the MP cited an article by an employee of the "Hraparak" newspaper Edik Andreasyan, who was called to the police for an article about the Prime Minister. Moreover, the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition sent a questionnaire to the media with a proposal to answer questions related to advertisers, the amount of funding and their sources. As the MP noted, the question arises whether such a questionnaire was sent to the pro-government media.
In turn, head of the ruling "My Step" faction, Lilit Makunts, expressed categorical disagreement with the views of the Bright Armenia party. According to her, there is no other crisis in Armenia except the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The faction leader noted that in their actions exclusively the law guides the authorities. As for the media, then, as Makunts noted, one can compare the volume of critical speeches in the media with the volume of laudations addressed to the authorities, and draw the appropriate conclusions.
Meanwhile, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, noted that there is no social crisis in Armenia. On the contrary, the Speaker continued, there are significant achievements. He stated that in 2020 the country faced a serious challenge due to COVID-19, which is being successfully overcome thanks to the developed and selected government programs. Ararat Mirzoyan noted that the country is moving in the right direction.
