ArmInfo.The RA Ministry of Nature Protection is holding discussions with the UNESCO Secretariat on new cooperation programs.

As part of the UNESCO participation program for 2020-2021, the  "Effective Management of Geological Landscapes and Natural Monuments  of the Vayots Dzor Region to Preserve Geological Diversity and  Sustainable Cultural and Landscape Heritage" project was submitted to  the UNESCO Secretariat by the ministry. The implementation of a  number of actions is considered, including the modernization of the  list of geological, hydrogeological and natural-historical monuments  of nature; work to clarify the clear location of the monuments and  compile relevant cognitive-informational materials; the development  of environmental education and public awareness; comprehensive  consideration of the cultural and landscape heritage as a promising  direction for the development of ecological tourism in Vayots Dzor.  In order to provide the initial information necessary for the  implementation of the program, the specialists of the Ministry  conducted educational routes, including places of geological,  hydrographic, tectonic and historical and cultural monuments of the  Vayots Dzor region.

A package of information materials will be compiled for each  monument, which will describe the significance of the monument,  including from the point of view of the history of the geological  development of the region, as well as archaeological research. It is  expected that the planned work will be an incentive for teaching  school-age children environmental skills.
