ArmInfo. Gagik Tsarukyan will remain the head of the Prosperous Armenia faction. The Secretary of the faction Arman Abovyan stated this on June 18 in an interview with reporters.
"Tsarukyan was, remains and will be the head of our party under any circumstances," Abovyan said, answering a question regarding a possible change in the leadership of the PAP. The lawmaker also noted that to date, many citizens have received proposals to join the "Prosperous Armenia". According to him, the authorities are implementing a certain policy against the party, providing a "leak" of dirty information, but he expressed confidence that this "information garbage" will not have the expected impact. Abovyan also said that constructive negotiations are underway with other opposition forces on the part of the PAP, the details of which, meanwhile, he refused to provide.
To recall, on June 14, after calling the leader of the Prosperous Armenia party Gagik Tsarukyan for questioning, a number of his supporters took to the streets and made attempts to block the traffic. In respect of 252 persons, administrative detention was applied. Earlier that day, searches were carried out at Tsarukyan's house, after which he was summoned to the NSS for questioning. Tsarukyan called what was happening political persecution, while the NSS reported three criminal cases involving a politician. So, according to the investigation, the leadership and other members of the Prosperous Armenia party distributed hundreds of millions of drams of election bribes in 2017 in accordance with well-developed schemes, and this was done under the pretext of charity. In another case, Tsarukyan's companies were involved in the organization of the casino's illegal activities, resulting in damage to the state of $ 60 million. Another criminal case concerns a company associated with Tsarukyan, which illegally appropriated land, and the state suffered damage of 342 million drams (about 685 thousand dollars).
Earlier, Tsarukyan was deprived of parliamentary immunity, and the parliament also approved a motion for the deprivation of his freedom. To date, the court continues to consider the request for the arrest of Tsarukyan.
