ArmInfo. The statement of the Prosperous Armenia faction representatives about the authorities' attempts to silence the opposition does not correspond to reality. This was announced on June 17 from the rostrum of the National Assembly by the head of the ruling My Step faction Lilit Makunts.
According to her, just as the majority cannot silence the opposition with their actions and statements, the same way the opposition cannot do this against the majority. According to the head of the faction, the statement of the leader of the Prosperous Armenia party Gagik Tsarukyan on the need for a 100% change of government, made by him on June 5, differs from the previous statements on two points. The first is the accusation of the alleged inability of the authorities to defeat the coronavirus. And this statement was made at the very time when the Prime Minister and his family members were infected. The second difference relates to the fact that the Prosperous Armenia party previously spoke of the need to replace 97% of the Cabinet members, but now it is already a question of 100%. Thus, as Makunts noted, the previous statements by representatives of the opposition are not much different from the current ones. The day before, in the process of discussing the petitions of the Prosecutor General, the My Step faction refrained from speaking out, trying to understand and evaluate the ongoing legal processes, and speak out on these processes by secret ballot.
Lilit Makunts also noted that the boycott of the parliament's work is the right of the opposition, as well as the right to appeal to international bodies. At the same time, you must be honest and transparent in your statements and actions. "Yes, freedom of speech, the development of democracy and the polarity of opinions are the most important achievements of the Republic of Armenia. This is evidenced by the results of both the parliamentary elections and the elections to local self-government bodies, some of which were won by opposition representatives. Meanwhile, on many platforms the opposition is trying to give political shade to the ongoing processes, thereby exerting pressure on the law enforcement system. Without violating the presumption of innocence, we reiterate that in the Republic of Armenia everyone is equal before the law, regardless of their position and post, "the head of the faction stated.
