ArmInfo. The National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia participated in the establishment of the Scientific Council of Virology by the International Association of Academies of Sciences.
On June 9, the International Association of Academies of Sciences held an online conference with leading experts in the field of virology, epidemiology, microbiology, immunology from Armenia, Russia, China, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. The main goal of creating a scientific council of virology is to join efforts in finding solutions to the most important scientific problems, exchange experience and train personnel. Armenia is represented on the council by head of the Laboratory of Cell Biology and Virology of the Institute of Molecular Biology of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Zaven Karalyan.
The current novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic was declared as a key issue in the activity of the Scientific Council on Virology. "We must take into account the experience we have in order to be prepared for the waves of various epidemics and take adequate steps," said Vladimir Chekhonin, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
A Scientific Council for coordination of COVID-19 academic studies is being created in Armenia which will involve specialists from the National Academy of Sciences, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the universities of Armenia.
