ArmInfo. The work to suppress espionage activities is carried out in full. Head of the National Security Service (NSS) of the Republic of Armenia Eduard Martirosyan stated this at a meeting of the Permanent Parliamentary Commission on Defense and Security.
Martirosyan noted that the NSS is carrying out quite a lot of work to protect state borders (Armenian-Iranian, Armenian-Georgian and Armenian-Turkish), which gives tangible results. So, in 2018, 38 cases of suppression of state borders were revealed, in 2019 - 35 cases, and in the current year - only 4 cases. In addition, arrests of wanted persons are also carried out at border areas, and the last case occurred a few days ago.
The head of the NSS pointed out the requirement to equip certain sections of the southern state borders with video monitoring systems, especially taking into account the fact that part of the border areas fall on uninhabited territories. According to him, the experience of installing control systems is quite successful, which helps to control borders tens of kilometers long, including the parallel use of special equipment.
Martirosyan also announced about plans to improve the living conditions of the officers serving in the border areas, and to continue housing construction for these purposes.
He also touched upon the issue of creating an NSS training center in Armenia, saying that the government allocated territory in Jrvezh (the former school of ensigns) for these purposes, and there are already plans to begin design work. "I hope that in the near future we will be a training center staffed with good specialists," he said.
