ArmInfo. Armenian mouflons (Ovis orientalis gmelini) registered in Red List were noticed in the "Zangezur" Biosphere Complex in the Syunik region of Armenia. As stated in the message posted on the <Zangezur's> Facebook page, a rare species was identified during monitoring.
To note, the Armenian mouflon is found mainly in the Khosrov Reserve in the Ararat region of the Republic of Armenia. A rare species is included in the Red List of Armenia and the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
<Zangezur> <Biosphere Complex SNCO was established on December 19, 2013 and covers 79660.5 hectares of territory. The goal is to preserve and restore the fauna and flora, the natural ecosystem, landscape diversity, unique natural monuments, as well as ensure the natural development of natural resources. The biosphere complex includes specially protected areas of the Syunik region: nature reserves, a nature reserve and a national park.
