ArmInfo.Armenia leads in the region in the share of new-type coronavirus infected (COVID-19) in the total population, and is second in pandemic mortality.
So, according to official data, as of June 1, 210 new cases of infection with a new type of coronavirus were registered in Armenia. Thus, the total number of infected reached 9492 people, while the number of cured reached 3402 people, and 139 death cases were recorded. In the ratio of the number of the population (according to statistics for 2019 - 2.959 million people), the number of infected people is 0.032%, and the mortality rate is 0.01%.
Turkey is on the second place in the ratio of the number of infected people to the population. According to statistics as of June 1, in Turkey with a population of 84.339 million (for 2019), a total of 164769 cases of coronavirus disease (+827 per day) or 0.2% of the total population were recorded, the mortality rate is 0.01%. The death cases - 4563 people (+23 per day), recovered - 128 947.
Iran ranks 3rd with a population of 83.993 million (for 2019), where the number of cases of coronavirus infection increased to 154445 or 0.18% of the population, the mortality rate was 9.38%. In total, 7878 deaths were registered in Iran, 121004 cases of recovery were recorded.
Iran is followed by Azerbaijan with a population of 10.383 million people, where according to official data as of June 1, the number of people infected with coronavirus reached 5662 people, or 0.06% of the total population, the mortality rate is 0.001%. At the same time, 68 deaths were recorded, 3508 recovered.
The situation is best in Georgia with a population of 3.799 million (for 2019), where the number of infected people in the ratio to the population is 0.02%, and the death rate is 0.0003%. According to official figures, in neighboring Georgia the number of people infected with coronavirus reached 794, with 624 recovering, and only 12 deaths were recorded. To note that Georgia has already lifted the state of emergency in the country, and plans to open the tourist season for citizens from favorable countries in terms of the fight against the pandemic on July 1.
Thus, in the region, Armenia (0.32%) leads in the share of coronavirus infected in the total population, followed by Turkey (0.2%), then Iran (0.18%), Azerbaijan (0.06%) and Georgia (0.02%).
Meanwhile, the share of mortality from a pandemic in terms of population is the worst in Iran - 9.38%, followed by Turkey and Armenia - 0.01% each, Azerbaijan on the third place - 0.001%, and Georgia -on the 4th- 0,0003%.
ArmInfo also decided to look at the statistics of cases of pneumonia with a non-defined pathogen and the flu with pneumonia caused by a virus in Armenia.
So, according to the data of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, in the Q1 of 2020, there were 3814 of them, against 4352 in the same period of 2019. According to the same data, in the Q1 of 2020, 755 people or 19.8% of the total number of patients died from respiratory diseases (the report does not specify which ones). Meanwhile, in the same period of 2019, there were 929 or 21.3% of those.
Thus, based on statistics, it is safe to say that last year both the number of cases and the mortality rate were higher than in the same period of the current year.
At the same time, the USA remains the leader in the number of detected cases of COVID-19 in the world. According to the American Johns Hopkins University, the country is aware of 1.79 million cases and more than 104 thousand deaths from the effects of infection. However, in the United States at least 444 thousand people have recovered from the virus.
Brazil is in second place, where at least 514 thousand people are ill, follows from university statistics. In this country, more than 29 thousand people died from coronavirus infection and more than 206 thousand recovered.
To note, while Brazil is not among the three countries - leaders in terms of mortality from COVID-19. The United States holds the first place in this group, the United Kingdom (over 38.5 thousand) and Italy (over 33.4 thousand) hold the second and third positions, Brazil ranks 4th in this list.
