ArmInfo. The parliament of Armenia applies double standards. The leader of the Bright Armenia opposition faction Edmon Marukyan announced this on May 26 from the rostrum of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
According to him, parliament speaker Ararat Mirzoyan today issued a warning to opposition MP Gevorg Petrosyan for not having a mask, but he did not give a warning when an MP attacked and hit in the back. Moreover, the same speaker applauded the prime minister, who in his speech justified this violence against the lawmaker. Obviously, Marukyan believes that double standards are applied in the parliament. Meanwhile, the NA President should be impartial.
Edmon Marukyan criticized the chairman of the State Legal Affairs Committee, Vladimir Vardanyan, who is supposed to be a co-rapporteur in the Council of Europe with a report on observing human rights in Armenia in pandemic situation. "Your silence about violence against the lawmaker testifies that the objectivity of this report is under threat," Edmon Marukyan emphasized.
To recall, on the morning of May 8, the lawmaker from the ruling "My Step" bloc Sasun Mikaelyan, after a verbal skirmish, attacked with fists the head of the Bright Armenia opposition faction Edmon Marukyan. Colleagues Artak Manukyan and Vahe Ghalumyan decided to "help" him. Members of the government intervened in the situation and tried to divert the conflicting parties from each other. When the situation got out of control, speaker Ararat Mirzoyan was forced to take a break. Speaking after the break, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan condemned any violence in any form. Nevertheless, according to him, the head of the Bright Armenia faction provoked a political majority in parliament to fight, calling the incident his personal and biggest failure.
