ArmInfo. The press secretary of the Prime Minister of Armenia, Mane Gevergyan, harshly condemned the publications of some media that Nikol Pashinyan's grandfather collaborated with the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War.
Gevorgyan's comment was spread by the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
The press secretary, in particular, noted that on May 9, when the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was celebrated, the atmosphere of the common holiday was overshadowed by the publications of some media outlets that circulated information about the grandfather of the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan. <These materials make reference to the Memorial database created by the Russian Ministry of Defense, which states that a certain Nikolai Vartanovich Pashinyan, who, according to the authors, is the grandfather of the Prime Minister of Armenia, fought against the Red Army in the ranks of the Wehrmacht.
Meanwhile, the head of the Armenian government on his official Facebook page posted a photo of his grandfather with the inscription "Nikol Arakelovich Pashinyan". His name can also be found in the aforementioned database of the Russian Ministry of Defense with the military rank of sergeant of the Red Army>, Gevorgyan said.
The spokeswoman said that the very fact that data was taken as the basis that were not subjected to a detailed study for reliability, speaks either of negligent attitude or bias data publications.
<We regret that some authoritative Russian media published unverified materials of this kind using rhetoric that is deliberately disseminated by certain circles for purely political purposes. Even the most superficial analysis of distribution channels indicates that the initiators of this falsification aim to drive a wedge into the Armenian-Russian fraternity, and to achieve this goal they do not disdain frank lies and insinuations against veterans and heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
The dissemination of such false information defaming the memory of a veteran who fought for his homeland, especially on the anniversary of the Great Victory, is blatant sacrilege and extremely unacceptable>, Mane Gevorgyan concluded. It should be noted that a number of Russian and Azerbaijani media recently reported that the grandfather of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan allegedly fought on the side of the Nazis.
