ArmInfo. The Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia in Rostov-on-Don issued a statement regarding the citizens of the Republic of Armenia who are at the Upper Lars checkpoint.
The statement in particular reads: <We inform that at the Upper Lars checkpoint from the Russian side there are currently about 35 citizens of the Republic of Armenia who express a desire to return to Armenia by their own cars. We emphasize once again that in the context of the emergency situation imposed by the Georgian authorities in the country, the Russian-Georgian border continues to be closed to foreign citizens. Considering the above circumstance, the Consulate General of Armenia, as a solution, proposed organizing the return of Armenian citizens on the forthcoming Sochi-Yerevan flights, as well as Krasnodar-Yerevan, covering the costs of women and children. It was also proposed to provide parking for cars owned by RA nationals. Citizens of Armenia at the checkpoint refused the above and the only solution under the current conditions, demanding that they should be returned to Armenia exclusively on their personal cars. It should be noted that Armenian citizens can return from Russia to Armenia by personal means by land only after a decision of the Georgian government restricting the entry of foreigners is cancelled.
