ArmInfo. Former Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan stated that he does not intend to engage in politics. He made this statement on May 11 in an interview with reporters. Media representatives were interested in the question of whether Karapetyan maintains contact with third president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan. The former prime minister informed that the day before yesterday, in a telephone conversation, he congratulated Sargsyan on the holidays. Commenting on the events of the "velvet revolution" and his meeting with the then opposition leader of the then opposition movement, Nikol Pashinyan, who was taken into custody on April 22, 2018, Karapetyan did not disclose the details of his conversation with him. "It's about our internal agreement," he remarked.
Regarding the assessment of the work of the current composition of the Armenian government, here Karapetyan wished the government success in overcoming the situation with minimal losses, noting that the problem is really serious. The former prime minister noted that to some extent he was following the development of events, and on many issues did not agree with the government.
To recall, today Karen Karapetyan participated in a meeting of the parliamentary Committeeinvestigating the April war of 2016. The former prime minister refused to answer questions about the meeting, noting that the meeting was closed and contains information representing state secrets. Karen Karapetyan was appointed as Prime Minister of Armenia on September 13, 2016. On April 9, 2018, by decree of then President of Armenia Armen Sargsyan, he was dismissed, and continued to perform duties as acting Prime Minister until the election of Serzh Sargsyan on April 17 as the new head of government. On April 23, after Sargsyan's resignation due to protests, according to the law , Karapetyan became acting Prime Minister. He resigned after May 8, when Nikol Pashinyan was elected to the post of Prime Minister of Armenia by parliamentary majority.
