"Europe Day is celebrated throughout the European Union on May 9. It is on this day that we think of Schuman Declaration, the fundamental document of the EU. The document was compiled on the basis of the experience of the greatest catastrophy in the history of Europe - World War II. This year we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. It is a message of solidarity, of unity, of cooperation and of joint values. We share this message with our partners worldwide, we share it with Armenia, "the diplomat emphasized.
At the same time, Wiktorin added that Armenia and the EU these days also celebrate the holiday of partnership and cooperation. She recalled that the European Union stands by Armenia for many years. "And we are also ready to support you in this extremely challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, full of challenges. We applaud all the essential workers who give their lives at the forefront of fighting the epidemic. We stand ready to do more and assist Armenia in solving long-term problems." "the diplomat said, adding that Armenia-EU cooperation continues in many areas, including in such areas as environment, education and innovation.
According to her, assisting the important reforms initiated by the RA government, the EU is interacting in favor of the Armenians. She recalled that usually the EU holds a wide range of events within the framework of the Day of Europe both in Yerevan and in the regions of the country, however, the current situation with the pandemic has forced a different approach in order not to endanger the lives of citizens.
Wiktorin emphasized that the festivities this year will be held in digital format, and expressed hope that the participants will like them. In conclusion, she added that we are strong together. "Stay at home, stay safe and healthy," the European diplomat summed up.
It should be noted that Armenia celebrates a triple holiday on May 8-9: Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, Day of the liberation of the city of Shushi, and Day of formation of the Defense Army of the Republic of Artsakh. Traditionally, on this day, large-scale celebrations are held throughout the country. However, this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, mass festivities are canceled. Tomorrow morning only the official part of laying flowers at the eternal flame in Victory Park in Yerevan will take place, and then a demonstration span dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War will take place. The May 9 Victory Parade will be attended by pilots and crews of the Mig-29, Su-30SM, Su-25 aircraft and the Mi-24P, Mi-8MTV helicopters of the Southern Military District and the Ministry of Defense of Armenia.
