ArmInfo. <No need to pass any laws in the parliaments, to engage in the recognition and non-recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Perhaps on such a day my point of view may be inappropriate, but this is not a position of denial, because it is unacceptable and immoral to deny a historical fact. I'm just a supporter of a different path>.
This was stated in an interview with ArmInfo correspondent by Israeli political scientist and public figure Avigdor Eskin, commenting on the initiative of Knesset deputy Yair Lapid to once again offer his colleagues to consider a bill on the Armenian Genocide.
<I do not really understand the very concept of promoting resolutions on the recognition of the Genocide in parliaments of the countries of the world. Well, 30 countries accepted it today, tomorrow a few more will be added. What will change? What, thanks to this, will the Turkish political elite become more conscientious or will it change hard stubbornness to fragile sentimentality? And one more thing: the fact of the struggle for recognition in parliaments gives legitimacy to "non-recognition", turning an irrefutable historical fact into a discussion platform>, the political scientist believes.
In his opinion, it is necessary to act, directing resources not to lobbying in parliaments, but to thoughtful, well-structured active work with the world community through the organization of university and scientific programs, spending money on monuments and special events, and most importantly - on political and legal support Armenia to organize legal claims against Turkey. Genocide is a historical fact that requires the start of a large-scale campaign to return to Armenia its property, large compensation payments, both material and moral, rather than voting in parliaments.
<Of course, there is a serious moral side of things, a deep wound, but in politics, including in big international politics, full of opportunistic wind rose, it seems to me counterproductive to discuss historical facts in this way. It would be if, imagine, we Jews today would engage in discussion with foreign politicians and deputies of issues related to the numerous historical facts of pogroms and ethnic cleansing of the Jewish population in a particular country: I repeat, it's unproductive, ineffective and nothing, ultimately does not. You see this after thirty years of efforts>, Avigdor Eskin emphasized.
