ArmInfo. Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Avet Adonts spoke about the main areas of activity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.
Thus, on April 21, during a press conference, Adonts, presenting the main directions, divided them into three areas: RA citizens who are abroad and want to return to their homeland, cargo transportation and interaction with international partners.
Stressing that the citizens of Armenia have always been in the spotlight of the Armenian authorities, he said that since mid-March of this year, 22,000 RA citizens have been able to return home. Moreover, the geography of returns, according to Adonts, is different: including the United States, Russia and Angola. He added that today 1283 RA citizens have expressed a desire to return home, however, so far they have not been able to ensure their return and the geography is large enough, somewhere a large group, somewhere small, but work in this direction continues.
At the same time, he stated that in order to organize this process, the Foreign Ministry closely interacts with the commandant's office and the Armenian government. The deputy minister added that sometimes, for objective reasons, the process of organizing the return of citizens is complicated and delayed, however, all the necessary efforts are made for their speedy return. He also added that both the Foreign Ministry and Armenian diplomats abroad (more than 200) since January, have been working in emergency mode, and in this regard, he expressed gratitude to them for their activities.
Speaking about international cooperation, Adonts noted that thanks to this activity, the necessary funds and medicines were imported into the republic to fight a new type of coronavirus. He also thanked the international donors and partners who had provided financial assistance in acquiring a number of protective agents in the fight against coronavirus.
He expressed gratitude to the Chinese partners for their assistance, the United States, which allocated a total of about $ 1.7 million to Armenia to fight coronavirus, and this is not counting the assistance of the IAEA, as well as the UN, EU, partners from India, who have already declared their readiness to provide important assistance with medicines, as well as with neighbors - Georgia, Russia and Iran.
