ArmInfo. The fact that the meetings of the parliamentary Committee investigating the April War of 2016 are held behind closed doors is not accidental. MP from the My Step faction, the head of the Defense and Security Committee Andranik Kocharyan announced this at a briefing in parliament on April 20.
He emphasized that until the Committee came to a final conclusion, its members had no right to divulge information received during the meetings. <We study a number of critical issues. The meeting, which was recently attended by third President Serzh Sargsyan, lasted five hours and there was no leakage of information in it,> Kocharyan said. Meanwhile, according to him, some began to come up with various speculations, referring to their alleged sources>, Kocharyan said, urging the public to trust exclusively official information in this matter. When asked whether members of the commission intend to invite Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan to the Committee, in connection with his statements that Russia was aware of the attack of Azerbaijan, the MP said: "We don't see the reasons why we should invite Nikol Pashinyan to Committee's meeting. The fact is that during the April War he did not hold leadership positions. Therefore, he has no answers to the questions we are interested in. When we need to identify the sources of this or that information, we ask questions to those who at that time were the representative of the country's leadership>, Kocharyan emphasized.
The head of the Committee emphasized that it is very important that Yuri Khachaturov, who in 2016 was the chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, appear at the meeting. <After our meeting with Serzh Sargsyan, we have new questions that concern, including Yuri Khachaturov. According to him, all issues have no political content and relate exclusively to the events of the April war. He expressed hope that Yuri Khachaturov will attend hearings of the parliamentary Committee.
To note, the parliamentary Committee investigating the April War in Karabakh was established on May 31, 2019. The Committee included representatives of all factions of the National Assembly. The purpose of its work is to identify possible errors, shortcomings or inaction on the part of the then authorities during the aforementioned period of aggravation of the situation at the border, which led to the death of more than 100 Armenian servicemen.
