ArmInfo.Armenia's Foreign Ministry has issued a statement on the completion of electoral processes in Artsakh. As the press service of the Ministry informs, the statement reads as follows: '
'We congratulate the people, authorities and political forces of Artsakh, who through their joint efforts ensured the successful completion of the general election process in Artsakh on April 14. Through democratic and competitive procedure, the people of Artsakh elected their new president and members of parliament. The formation of new authorities of Artsakh has been of utmost importance in terms of exercising human rights in Artsakh, ensuring security of the people of Artsakh and efficiently pursuing the peace process. The Republic of Armenia will closely cooperate with the authorities representing the people of Artsakh in the peace process and will consistently support the realization of the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination without any limitation. We are confident that the newly elected authorities of Artsakh will assume their key role in the negotiation process with particular responsibility''.
To note, on April 14, the second round of the presidential election was held in Artsakh. According to the results of the presidential election in Artsakh on March 31, not a single candidate overcame the 50% threshold necessary for victory. In this connection, a second round was appointed, in which the former State Minister of the Republic Arayik Harutyunyan, who gained 49.26% of the vote in the first round, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Artsakh Masis Mayilyan, who gained 26.4%, competed. According to the Artsakh Central Election Commission, according to preliminary results of the vote count in the second round of the presidential election, Arayik Harutyunyan won, who secured the support of 39,860 voters (84.5%), and Masis Mayilyan - 5728 voters (12.1%). In total, 47,165 voters (45%) out of 103 thousand participated in the elections. We also note that the electoral processes in Artsakh took place in an emergency regime, which was introduced in the country on April 12 against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic.
It should also be noted that following the March 31 parliamentary elections in Artsakh, five parties will enter the new parliament of Nagorno-Karabakh. The majority of votes were gained by the Free Homeland / United Civil Alliance bloc (40.4%), led by former Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan. Also, the United Hoemlad party - 23.63%, Justice - 7.9%, ARF Dashnaktsutyun - 6.4% and the Democratic Party of Artsakh - 5.81% passed to parliament. A number of international organizations and states have already made statements, emphasizing that they do not recognize these elections and stating that their result cannot affect the outcome of the settlement of the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict.
