ArmInfo.Armenian President Armen Sarkissian had a telephone conversation with the newly elected President of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan. According to the press service of the President of Armenia, Sarkissian congratulated Harutyunyan on his victory in the second round of presidential elections in Artsakh.
At the same time, he stated that Arayik Harutyunyan assumes the post of president in a very difficult and responsible period for Artsakh due to events taking place in the world, in particular, complex geopolitical processes taking place in our region. "The Republic of Artsakh has once again proved that it is an established country with its state bodies and, most importantly, with its citizens. Today, more than ever, we need unity and integrity," said the President of Armenia.
Armen Sarkissian expressed confidence that Arayik Harutyunyan will be able to strengthen the atmosphere of solidarity and tolerance in Artsakh, organize and ensure the security of Artsakh, economic and political development, and rally people around common goals.
It should be noted that yesterday the second round of presidential elections was held in Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan, who gained 49.26% of the vote in the first round, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Artsakh Masis Mayilyan, who scored 26.4% were running in the second round.
According to the Artsakh Central Election Commission, as of 20 April 14, 47050 (44.9%) participated in the second round of the presidential election in Artsakh. A little more than 103 thousand citizens of Artsakh had the right to take part in the elections.
"According to preliminary results of the presidential elections in Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan received more than 87% of the vote," Vahram Poghosyan, spokesman for the Free Homeland Party, wrote on his Facebook page.
After that, Harutyunyan addressed the people, in particular, saying: "Dear compatriots, I congratulate all of us on the end of the national election, and the reason for congratulation is quite compelling, since we all managed to hold both rounds of elections without unrest in conditions of coronavirus pandemic. I will not touch upon the question of the active participation of political analysts in the elections. In my opinion, both mine and supporters of other candidates probably thought that these elections were predetermined, and participation was optional. Along with this, we can fix the transition of the Republic of Artsakh to a new level of democracy. There are no ideal choices, even in much more developed countries. When, after some time, international colleagues visit our region, they will be able to evaluate our commitment to the implementation of fundamental human rights and compare us with some recognized countries. We are moving forward. Our duty is to build a prosperous future for our people. I wish success to all of us. "
