ArmInfo. The deadlines for the implementation of the program for planting 10 million trees in Armenia have been postponed to 2021. This is stated in the message of the RA Ministry of Nature Protection.
The program for planting 10 million trees was to be implemented on October 10, 2020. Meanwhile, taking into account the situation that has developed as a result of the spread of coronavirus, it was decided to postpone its implementation to 2021. At the same time, the ministry does not exclude that during the current year it will be possible to plant 1 million seedlings, which is also an unprecedented indicator in the context of recent years.
To recall, on October 16 last year at the Global Innovation Forum, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan came up with an initiative to plant 10 million trees on October 10, 2020, which will symbolize the unity of 10 million Armenians from around the world.
It should also be noted that having ratified the Paris Agreement, Armenia committed itself to increase the size of forest territories by 285 thousand ha by 2050, which implies the planting of 800-900 million trees. This means that up to 30 million seedlings should be planted at an annual rate. This process automatically implies the creation of new nurseries of seedlings, the creation of additional jobs, active interaction with communities adjacent to forests, and so on. According to experts, the large-scale planting program will enter the active phase around 2025-2026.
