ArmInfo. We will recommend that the Government of Armenia extend the terms of the state of emergency. RA Minister of Healthcare Arsen Torosyan announced this at a press conference on April 10.
To recall, the emergency mode, introduced in connection with the epidemiological situation, is valid from March 16 to April 14. According to Torosyan, its extension is necessary in terms of ensuring the duration of ongoing preventive measures. The Minister also noted that there should not be a return to the usual rhythm of life for a long time - from a year to two years, including the observance of social distance and following the rules of personal hygiene (frequent hand washing, and so on).
Torosyan also urged not to evaluate the current situation with coronavirus by digital indicators, especially given the decline in new cases of COVID-19. According to him, data on new cases may increase, especially given the fact that in recent days on the streets you can again see crowds. Currently, about 180 patients with coronavirus have been diagnosed with pneumonia. Torosyan also informed that 8 patients with coronavirus are in an extremely serious condition, 40 patients- in a serious one. The death rate from COVID-19 in Armenia is about 1%, while the average age of the victims of the virus is 75 years, and most of them also suffered from chronic diseases. Today in the republic there are 200 mechanical ventilation devices allocated exclusively for the treatment of patients with coronavirus; another 50 units will be delivered within a month.
The head of the Ministry of Healthcare also informed that to date, about 6500 tests for coronavirus have been carried out in Armenia. The minister also announced plans to increase the number of tests conducted in the daily context to an indicator of 1000.
In total, in Armenia about 1,700 medical workers are involved in the fight against coronavirus. Torosyan also said that the republic renders all possible assistance to Artsakh, where cases of COVID-19 were also revealed.
