ArmInfo. The peak of number of cases of coronavirus is impossible to forecast; it can be at any moment. RA Minister of Healthcare Arsen Torosyan stated this at a press conference on April 2.
Meanwhile, the minister noted that the objective of the preventive measures being taken is to bring the peak of COVID-19 as soon as possible, since after it the infection rate will be recorded daily. Speaking about the fact that in one day 92 patients with coronavirus were detected in Armenia, Torosyan emphasized that this is not evidence of a sharp increase of number of cases of infection, given that most of these patients are already quarantined citizens. According to him, among the patients there are also a small number of children and pregnant women, and about 80% of the total number of patients with COVID-19 have mild symptoms.
The Minister informed that at present a number of foci of the spread of the virus have been identified, some of which are directly related to the very first foci of COVID-19. In addition, import cases were also recorded among truck drivers and citizens who returned from abroad to their homeland. In this case, patients are mainly detected at the checkpoint, after which they are immediately isolated.
Torosyan admitted that, theoretically, the moment may come when the healthcare system will no longer be able to follow in the footsteps of each particular case. This can happen for objective reasons, as the virus spreads and is asymptomatic too. "However, we are far from this moment," he said. If such a scenario of events nevertheless becomes a reality, then inpatient treatment will be provided only to moderate patients, and lighter cases will be treated at home, as is now happening in many countries of the world. "Our task is to prevent or postpone the onset of this situation," said Torosyan.
