ArmInfo. On March 20, Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received newly appointed heads of the National Security and Police Service, Eduard Martirosyan and Arman Sargsyan.
During a live broadcast on his Facebook page, Pashinyan congratulated Sargsyan and Martirosyan on their appointment, stressing that they hold very important public posts. The prime minister noted that the Police and the NSS are involved in the process of combating coronavirus and are providing assistance to the Ministry of Healthcare.
"Everyone knows the conditions under which personnel changes took place in the National Security Service and the Police of Armenia. We are all aware of the problems that these bodies have had for 6 months. One of the main questions that we should answer is whether these bodies have undergone major changes over the past six months, I should note that we were not able to make pivotal changes in these bodies, but we outlined a rather large range of tasks, having decided that we would have such structures of the NSS and the Police that would fully comply with our m expectations, "said the prime minister.
Pashinyan stressed that in this matter he has high hopes for the newly appointed heads of bodies. "It is obvious to everyone that fundamental reforms are needed in the Police and the NSS, and I have high hopes in this matter. The police and the NSS are playing key positions in the law enforcement system of our country, and we must do everything possible to develop them," he stressed. The prime minister also turned to cooperation between the NSS and the Police. "It is very laudable that today there is cooperation between these bodies, because it is very important that there is no spirit of competition between you. Another factor that served as the reason for your reassignment is that you do not try to hide the problems that are inside the bodies. And I'm sure that you will make efforts to consistently solve these problems. I wish you success, "Pashinyan concluded.
It should be noted that 6 months ago, head of the NSS, Arthur Vanetsyan, and head of the Police, Valery Osipyan, unexpectedly resigned. Arman Sarisyan was appointed the post of acting Chief of Police, and Eduard Martirosyan the post of acting head of the NSS. After 6 months, on the proposal of the head of government, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian signed a decree appointing Martirosyan and Sargsyan as heads of the National Security Service and the Police.
