ArmInfo.Anna Naghdalyan, spokeswoman for the Armenian Foreign Ministry, made an explanation regarding the new procedure for the entry of Georgian citizens and trucks into Georgia.
Thus, the report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia once again emphasizes that according to the agreements reached between the governments of the Republic of Armenia and Georgia, freight traffic will continue uninterruptedly.
The ministry also recalled that representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Georgia and Russia have repeatedly reported in recent days that due to adverse weather conditions, the section of the Gudauri-Gobi road leading to the Verkhny Lars checkpoint remains closed.
"At the same time, we would like to remind you that the entry of RA citizens into the territory of Georgia is prohibited on all roads, including by sea and air. We would also like to inform that the accumulation of trucks is observed both in the Armenian-Georgian (Bagratashen-Sadakhlo) and the Georgian-Russian (Upper Lars-Kazbegi) border, as well as on different sections of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars road, "the RA MFA spokeswoman informed, stressing that border crossing at all the above sections was suspended by trucks due to heavy snowfall which is observed I, and the movement will be restored as soon as the weather permits.
She also called on the Armenian citizens who are now at the Verkhny Lars checkpoint from the Russian side to return to their starting points and use the airway to return to Armenia, as they will not be able to cross the border due to new restrictions imposed by Georgia. The RA MFA stated that citizens will be able to fly to Yerevan from the airports nearest to Lars in Mineralnye Vody, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don. In conclusion, Naghdalyan called on RA citizens to refrain from trying to enter Armenia through Georgian territory and use exclusively the air way to return to their homeland, and soberly assess the current situation.
Note that from 00:00 hours on March 18, Georgia prohibits the entry of citizens of other states into its territory. This is due to measures that the Georgian authorities are taking to combat coronavirus.
