ArmInfo. On March 13, the solemn opening ceremony of the Armenian-Belarusian Friendship Forest on the territory of the Sevan National Park took place. The event, which was attended by Minister of Economy of Armenia Tigran Khachatryan and Minister of Forestry of Belarus Vitaly Drozhzh, was held as part of the 14th meeting of the Armenian-Belarusian intergovernmental commission.
In his speech, Drozhzh noted the importance of paying great attention to increasing forest areas and planting trees in Armenia. He also expressed hope that society will support this initiative and will be actively involved in this process. The Minister also promised to provide assistance in various areas, including in the provision of seedlings and the exchange of technology.
For his part, Deputy Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia Vardan Melikyan, referring to the program for planting 10 million trees in Armenia this year, noted that agreements had been reached with the Belarusian side on the provision of new seedlings.
In particular, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Belarus Armen Ghevondyan, Ambassador of Belarus to the Republic of Belarus Igor Nazaruk, representatives of the Belarusian delegation and the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia participated in the event.
To recall, the forest of the Armenian-Belarusian friendship was founded in 2018, and covers an area of about 10 hectares. In the same year, the Belarusian side donated 50,000 pine seedlings to Armenia.
