ArmInfo. On February 20, in front of the government building of Armenia, a protest rally of mothers of servicemen who died in the army in peacetime began. The demand of the protesters is a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. For his part, NA Vice-Speaker Alen Simonyan promised to mediate the Prime Minister to accept mothers.
Participants in the protest rally point to the need for an objective and impartial investigation of the tragic incidents in the army, noting that this environment of impunity has caused 13 deaths in the army since the beginning of the year. At the same time, they expressed their extreme indignation at the fact that such incidents are often considered by law enforcement officers as suicide. As noted, the officer personnel are responsible for the situation in the army and the death of soldiers.
Stressing that this situation can no longer continue, the mothers of the dead soldiers demand a meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss the current situation. At the same time, the demand for ensuring the presence of the Attorney General, Head of the Investigative Committee and the Minister of Defense was also voiced.
To note, since the beginning of the year, cases of tragic incidents involving firearms and fatal outcome have become more frequent in the army. In this regard, parliamentarians have repeatedly called on relevant bodies to pay careful attention to the current situation. In this context, officials indicated the need to combat criminal subculture in the army.
