ArmInfo. The court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan, presided by Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan, today, February 19, discussed the request to extend the detention of the owner of TV Channel 5 Armen Tavadyan.
The court decision will be announced today at 7:30pm. During the meeting, the court considered a request to extend the term of Tavadyan's detention for another two months.
Tavadyan's lawyer Aram Orbelian, in an interview with reporters, stated that no new grounds for extending the term of his client in custody were presented. "The investigator was embarrassed because the secret of the preliminary investigation was disclosed. In fact, no new facts were submitted, new falsified documents were submitted. There are no reasons to keep my client in custody, and there are no risks that Tavadyan may try to escape, "the lawyer emphasized.
Orbelian noted that Tavadyan's arrest was an attempt to silence him.
"This case is related to his political and social activities. We hope that the preventive measure will not be changed," the lawyer concluded.
It should be noted that the owner of Channel 5 Armen Tavadyan is suspected of trying to bribe a witness in order to change his testimony in the case of the events of March 1, 2008.
Earlier, a video was published by the Police, according to which, as reported, one of the supporters of former President of Armenia Robert Kocharian suggested that the witness in the "March 1 case" change his testimony in exchange for money and a good position. Tavadyan himself and his lawyers regard the case as political persecution, as the owner of Channel 5 supported the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharian.
