ArmInfo. On February 18, the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, who was on an official visit to Copenhagen, met with Danish Folketing Speaker Henrik Dam Kristians, representing the Social Democratic Party of Denmark. The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Parliament Speaker Karen Ellman (Liberal Party) and Vice Speaker Jens Rohde (Social Liberal Party).
As the press service of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia reports, at the request of the Danish side, Ararat Mirzoyan presented the path that Armenia has taken since gaining independence, as well as the changes that have occurred after the "velvet" revolution and the early parliamentary elections of 2018. Reference was made to the program of democratic changes adopted by Armenia, especially in the judicial sphere. The parties discussed cooperation with European structures on amending the Electoral Code and the Law on Parties. The speaker of the Danish parliament expressed readiness to support the Armenian parliament in consolidating democratic achievements.
Ararat Mirzoyan, emphasizing that this is the first official visit to the Kingdom of Denmark at the level of parliament speaker, expressed the hope that he would open up new opportunities for the exchange of experience between the two legislative bodies and close cooperation in international parliamentary organizations. Regretting that there are no traditions in the formation of parliamentary friendship groups in the Danish parliament, the parties expressed the hope that the organization of joint meetings and discussions between the relevant parliamentary committees, mutual visits and constant contacts between different parliamentary factions can become an effective platform for mutually beneficial cooperation. Ararat Mirzoyan expressed gratitude for informing the General Secretary of the Council of the EU about the completion by the Danish Parliament of the ratification of the Agreement on a comprehensive and expanded partnership between Armenia and the European Union. The NA President expressed hope that the Danish side will support the Armenian authorities at the beginning of the dialogue on visa liberalization with the EU.
At the request of the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Ararat Mirzoyan presented issues related to the domestic political agenda of Armenia, including the referendum on the constitutional court, which will be held on April 5.
Reference was made to a wide range of regional security issues, including the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Members of the delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly presented the essence of the conflict and Armenia's approaches to its peaceful settlement exclusively within the framework of the co- chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group.
