ArmInfo. Staffing changes will be implemented in the army. Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia Artak Davtyan announced this on February 18 at a meeting with reporters.
To the remark that the media reported that head of the military police Artur Baghdasaryan and Minister of Defense of Artsakh Karen Abrahamyan will resign, Davtyan said: "The resignation of the head of the NKR defense army is not within our sector of competence, this is Artsakh's internal affairs which concern the President of the country and the Minister of Defense. I can't comment on this assumption, since all such issues are within the competence of the Prime Minister and the President of Armenia. But no matter what decision our leadership takes, we are obligated s to fulfill it. "
The chief of the General Staff said that he would like to provide the media with information about the activities that were carried out in the Armed Forces in order to fill the information vacuum that has developed recently.
When asked who will be responsible for the recent deaths in the army, Davtyan said that everyone is equal before the law, but the court makes the final decision on this issue. At the same time, he noted that disciplinary measures had been taken, as a result of which some persons were removed from their posts.
Davtyan also touched on the issue of criminal subculture, which, according to the prime minister, is one of the causes of suicide in the army. The chief of the general staff said that the answer to the question of the presence of this subculture in the army should be given as part of a criminal case. "Of course, in a global sense, such elements exist in the army, as in our society. There can be no situation where such a subculture exists in society, but it does not exist in the army. But, of course, we have something to work on in this area," Davtyan concluded.
It should be noted that a joint closed meeting of the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs and the Standing Committee on Defense and Security, which was attended by Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia Artak Davtyan, took place in the parliament on February 18.
To recall, on February 14 it became known about the death of the 13th soldier who died in the Armenian army. Almost all of these deaths occurred under unclear circumstances. This fact is being vigorously debated in society, on social networks they demand the resignation of Minister of Defense David Tonoyan and Chief of the General Staff, Artak Davtyan. In connection with this situation, yesterday the Prime Minister of Armenia held a meeting with the heads of defense departments.
Moreover, on February 18, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on his Facebook page touched on the meeting held on the eve of the government with the participation of representatives of the defense departments. "A number of important decisions were made, including personnel decisions. Against this background, I consider it necessary to emphasize that in 2019 we had a historical minimums of deaths in the army. And our task is to maintain this momentum. However, for this purpose I consider it important to exclude the formation of nervous atmosphere around the army. There is no division between army and society. We are one whole, one family, and one organism. And we will win, "he said.
