ArmInfo. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian and King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein Al Hashimi discussed the potential for cooperation.
As Sarkissian stated during a brief statement to the press on February 11, during the meeting, such areas of cooperation as tourism, science, education, as well as security and technology were touched upon. According to him, the visit of the King of Jordan is a historic event, including taking into account the fact that Abdullah II is visiting Armenia for the first time. Pointing to the centuries-old friendship between the two countries, Sarkissian expressed special gratitude to Abdullah II for the fact that his great-grandfather, being Sheriff of Mecca a hundred years ago, delivered a manifesto to the Arab world, asking for shelter for the survivors of the Armenian Genocide.
For his part, Abdullah II pointed out that Armenia and Jordan have many opportunities for cooperation, noting also that countries remain faithful to culture and faith. He drew attention to the fact that Jordan gave shelter to many Armenians, and thousands of Jordanians with Armenian roots made a great contribution to the development of Jordan in all areas. In his speech, Abdullah II also touched on the inadmissibility of turning the region into a place of discord, emphasizing that fraternity always wins.
To note, Armen Sarkissian and Abdullah II met in April 2019 during a working visit of the President of the Republic of Armenia to Jordan. During the meeting, Sarkissian invited the King of Jordan to visit Armenia.
