ArmInfo. In Armenia, 36,131 babies were born in 2019. According to the RA Statcommittee, the birth rate in the country on an annualized basis decreased by 1.2%, and in a two-year breakdown - by 4.2%. The birth rate per 1000 inhabitants for the reporting year decreased from 12.3 to 12.2 ppm, against 12.6 two years earlier.
The highest birth rate was registered in Yerevan, where 14,010 children were born during the reporting period. Following are the regions of Ararat, Armavir and Kotayk, where the number of children born exceeds 3,000. There are more than 2,000 children born in the Gegharkunik, Lori and Shirak regions. In Syunik and Tavush, just over 1,000 children were born. And the lowest birth rate is registered in Vayots Dzor region - 502 children.
According to statistics, during the reporting year, 26,252 people died in Armenia, with annual growth of 1.9%, but a two-year decline of 3.3%. The mortality rate in the country increased in 2019 from 8.7 to 8.9 ppm, compared to 9.1 in 2017. The absolute value of the natural population growth was 9,879 people, which is 8.7% less than the indicator of the previous year. The rate of natural population growth decreased in 2019 from 3.6 to 3.3 ppm, versus 3.5 ppm in 2017. According to statistical data, the population of Armenia as of January 1, 2020 exceeded 2.959 million people, decreasing by 0.2% or 6.1 thousand people in annual terms.
